The Imperial Opa- Round 3!

Alright, here are some photos from last night's practice with The Imperial Opa. It was a blast; I feel like I am a part of their family. Last night was the night that Mr. Tim Mack got the ideas for the upcoming show on April 9th. (Interesting factoid, in the last image, the guy in the petticoat used to work for UWG... He was the guy that would ride the unicycle around campus... Cool guy, and I think he looks better in a skirt like article of clothing than I do, lol.) They had some different things going on, some new acts were revealed. The large hoop thing that they are standing in is part of a "coin spinner" act. It was insane, from what everyone was saying is that is was really heavy and really hard to do, hence why they were pushing Tim and helping him steady the ring in the top image. With this shoot, since I am becoming more familiar with the space and the members, I wanted to capture what it was like being at one of the practices. I wanted to photograph Tim talking to the other members with his clip board (which is never out of his hands for long), the afterwards where the members are just relaxing and getting ready to leave, and the interactions that go on during the practice times. Let me know what you guys think of this initial set of photos and I will try to post more soon.

  1. Sounds like good fun, yes, I've only seen a few guys perform with it really well (so of course Cirque du Soleil captured pretty quickly) but they're in the Corteo show (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/corteo/default.aspx), which although not my favorite it is still ranks high as one of the most gorgeously conceived shows since it is based upon a clown's funeral—interesting idea yes? Death of a clown? Who's not in a tell you (I need to stop sounding like an add for cirque).

But there were the Cyr wheel guys in that show and it looked hard to do but they made it seem effortless. That is really cool to see local performers bringing alternate life to that piece.
